Chana Batata

Chana Batata chaat typically loved in any Dawoodi Bohra house .There are numerous recipes for this but my preferred is bowl full of mouthwatering Chaat in lanes of Bhindi Bazaar in Mumbai .

Ingredients

    • 1 cup black chick peas
    • 1/2 cup boiled potato
    • 1 medium size onion
    • 2 garlic cloves
    •  2 tbsp curd
    • 2 tbsp gram flour (besan)
    •  1 /2 tsp turmeric powder
    • 1 tsp red chili powder
    • 1 tsp coriander powder
    • 3 tbsp Oil
    • 2 tsp cumin seeds
    • 1 tsp mustard seeds
    • 3 green chilies
    • 1/4 cup jiggery
    • 2 tbsp tamarind paste
    • Curry leaves
    •  Garnish
    • Chopped Fresh coriander leaves
    • Chopped Mint leaves
    • Fried onion (Birsta)

Instruction

    1. Soak black chickpeas overnight
    2. Boil Chickpeas and potatoes separately and keep it aside.
    3. Heat oil in a pan let the cumin and mustard seeds crackle.
    4. Add green chilies ,garlic,onion and curry leaves fry it till onion light brown.
    5. Add besan into it with all dry spices cook it for 5 min add water along with curd,tamarind paste and jaggery stir it and cook it for few min until water thickens slightly ,add boiled chickpeas and potato mix it well.
    6. Adjust salt to taste Serve hot garnish it with coriander, mint , tomato and minced onion or Birsta (fried onion )
